The Great Usopp Who Is the Captain, Trust Me

Usopp is a friendly and particularly accepting person, someone who enjoys making other people laugh while spinning larger than life tales. While he's a well-known liar and often over-exaggerates even the truth, it's not usually done in any malicious way. One might say it was birthed from a complicated childhood, in which lying was his best method of coping with the decline of his mother's health and the father who would never come home. He can absolutely come across as annoying, especially because he tends to dramatize everything in a way that screams all bark, no bite, and his cowardice is a theme of which he will constantly be grappling with.

But he's a good kid. He means well. And though he struggles through a lot of insecurities and fears of abandonment or lacking worth, he will summon up just enough to do what he can for the people around him.

Usopp, portrayed by Jacob Romero Gibson, is a main character in One Piece. He is the sniper of the Straw Hat Pirates and the fourth member of the crew. As a child, Usopp lost his mother and began shouting around Syrup Village about the invented arrival of the pirates, hoping that one day his father, Yasopp, would come for him to take him on his adventures across the sea. He would later form a close bond with Kaya after she lost her parents and he encouraged her with stories of his supposed adventures.

Working at Syrup Village shipyard, he encountered Monkey D. Luffy for the first time when the pirate was struck by a ship. After saving Kaya from Kuro's assassination plot, Usopp was inspired by Kaya to fulfill his dream of being a brave warrior of the seas and joined the Straw Hat Pirates in their search for the One Piece.
